Sucker Words – Wealth Redistribution

In the grand tradition of famed propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels, talking heads in pulpits across the nation corral the great American sheep with their invisible staffs of fear. Preachers like Limbaugh and his clones cart their millions to the banks with glee on their faces and profits in their hearts. They delight every time they see Americans react to their rhetoric like a school of lemming turning in unison to every little source of fear, real or imagined.

American propagandists constantly take otherwise innocent, benign words and phrases and paint them with dark, insidious overtones and watch as society’s shallow thinkers, such as members of the Tea Party, turn them into weapons and unwittingly do the bidding of the propagandists themselves. Is it any wonder Limbaugh, Hannity, Palin and others of their ilk are often seen with the smirk of a prankster? Consider these evil terms, “liberal”, “socialist”, “gay”, “atheist”, and “illegal immigrant”. The list is lengthy, but you get the point. All are words or terms that have been vilified by the talking heads. Reactionaries reflexively recoil in horror when they hear them.

Tax Cuts for the Rich – The Latest Proof We’re Imbeciles

I’m not an economist, but I did ride in an elevator with one last month. I guess that makes me as qualified as the next guy to comment on the absurdity of the continuation of the Bush tax cuts. Republican warlords entrenched in the hills of Washington have continued to snipe at President Obama. In his own words, he has taken a shellacking. Now Obama gives us another word to play with, “capitulation”. For those of you inclined to syllabic minimalization, you may substitute “surrender”. Actually we can cut it to just one syllable; he “quit”. Republicans acting as the hand-puppets of the ultra-rich have strangled the President and with that treasonous act, murdered the hopes of the American middle-class.

How does this serve to prove Americans are imbeciles? Consider this – many Americans are rejoicing in this news especially that enlightened flock of Murdockian sheep known as the Tea Party. They’ve been herded into their pen by the shepherds of idiocy at FOX News and other right wing Kool-Aid pushers and have been told they should be delighted because everyone is getting big tax breaks. As they dance and sing with joy, they don’t have a clue they’ve just walked into their own slaughter house.

Talking to Stumps

Sure, I’m generalizing. So be aware I acknowledge there are exceptions to what I’m about to say. At last count there were twelve. Not bad for a group of a few tens of millions. It’s increasingly difficult to pick a descriptive name for the group. Call them FOXites, tea baggers, right wing-nuts, religious zealots, conservatives or Republicans, each group disavows automatic inclusion in the other, but the reality is that by superimposing each group’s demographic over the others, the boundaries are barely blurred. Sadly for some (namely conservatives and Republicans), their labels used to carry an element of pensive respect, but those were the days of William F. Buckley and other educated, intelligent icons of their philosophical sect. Buckley and his ilk have been replaced by the likes of Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly and numerous other doctrinal windbags that don’t even believe in their own theater. They pander to the under-educated, intellectually lazy “patriots” that find a three piece jigsaw puzzle a formidable mental challenge. They’re making a mockery out of the American political system by feeding nonsensical populist rubbish into the unfiltered minds of the philosophical zombies that roam the range contributing little beyond mental defecant to the discussion of the substantive issues confronting America today.

Econ 101 – He Never Saw it Coming

Sometimes people just don’t look both ways. That’s how wrecks happen. In this country, the level of economic expertise is pathetically low. We don’t mandate even basic economics classes in most high schools. The average American doesn’t have a clue how the economy works or what the Federal Reserve does. If the paycheck clears the bank, the economy must be good. If our collective ignorance didn’t have such a monumental influence on our future, it would be funny. But when some people listen to the likes of Glenn Beck for their economic knowledge, our future is bleak indeed. Tea baggers sit in judgment of President Obama, Ben Bernanke, Tim Geithner, Barney Frank and myriad others who provide direction to our economic policies, yet few could tell the difference between their economic philosophies and Shinola. It truly portends of a dismal future.

Maybe the Tea Sippers Can Explain It

I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels cerebrally challenged from time to time. I’m pretty well educated and I’ve rolled the odometer over a couple times on the experience machine. It could be because I like to surround myself with people that are a hellava lot smarter than I am, but I’m always feeling like the short leg on a wobbly library table.

So I prostrate myself before the FOX hounds, tea party participants, Limbos and the rest of the purveyors of the lofty premise and beg for your insights and answers. There are a couple of things I haven’t been able to piece together. If you can enlighten me, perhaps, I can join the Republican Party and start sipping a cup of tea myself. If anyone can answer these questions, I know it’s you because you guys are always the ones screaming the loudest on the subjects.

A Review of Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story”

Michael Moore, the leftist the right would like left behind, has done it again.  Capitalism: A Love Story is in theaters around the nation.  As much to annoy my right leaning friends as anything else, I attended opening night.  I’ve always enjoyed Moore’s work even if he did every now and again take a bit of literary license.  His intention has always been to be provocative.  Love him or hate him, you can’t deny he’s been successful at that.

Moore’s newest film differs from his previous documentaries in that it is more humorous and less focused.  The film is interspersed with plenty of the dry humor for which Moore has become known.  His attempts to make “citizen’s arrests” are laden with his trademark humor that has everyone laughing but the FOXites and the subjects of his jokes.  Although, in one instance, a New York Police officer can be seen putting forth a Herculean effort to keep from cracking up.  Regardless of your political views, the movie is worth seeing if for nothing more than the laughter in brings.

How Quickly We Forget

Recent polls suggest some Americans are unhappy with the progress being made on the economy by President Obama. With the same level of oblivion that got us into this economic mess in the first place, many “conservative” Americans seem to have forgotten their very recent history. They live with the delusion that the Obama administration was supposed to have moved into the White House, kissed the boo-boo, and suddenly made everything the way it had been when Champaign flowed like rain water in a bamboo forest.

If you can believe the results of a recent poll conducted by the New York Times/CBS News, more than half of Americans say President Obama’s policies have had “either no effect yet on improving the economy or have made it worse.” In my opinion, the poll is more of an indictment of the American educational system, a system that allows high school and college graduates to walk the streets without so much as a fundamental understanding of macro-economics.
