God knows, I’ve resisted. In my mind and heart, I know this great nation has survived the past two and a quarter centuries largely because of the wisdom our founding fathers crafted into the documents upon which the nation is built. Central to that foundation is the separation of church and state mandated in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
But as time goes on, the din of a vocal mob of self righteous evangelicals becomes more tiring than I care to mention. Although I’m inflicted by birth and by training with a deductive bent, I’m always amazed at how members of this group always profess to be so much smarter than am I. They seem to have all the answers to so many questions most of which I have no interest in asking in the first place. But with the power of the media, cable and satellite TV, the internet and of course the good old door knock, they’ve left me no place to hide.
